Up One Level

(Southbound I-270; Frederick, MD)

Although I-270 is a three-digit Interstate, its relative importance to the American Interstate system gives it the air of a two-digit Interstate.  Reason is, traffic from westward states generally comes from I-70 . A high-speed corridor is needed to Washington DC, the American capital.  Thing is, there is no two-digit Interstate connection between I-70 and Washington DC, so I-270 was created to fill that gap.
